Description

CONTEXT

The oxidation of polysaccharides by nitrogen dioxide (NO2/N2O4) as oxidizing agent is a well known reaction. The use of NO2 gas has, however, proved to be tricky resulting in particular in heterogeneities. Various methods of oxidation in organic solvents.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

This invention describes a new method for the oxidation of polysaccharides that makes it possible to obtain variable mass %carboxylic acid content ranging, in the case of cellulose, up to approximately 25,5% (which corresponds to 100% oxidation of the primary hydroxyl groups), distributed homogenously, regardless of the degree of oxydation.
