Existing high yield processes for producing capsules with a controlled content (size and concentration of the suspended particles) are either difficult and/or expensive to scale-up, limited by a poor control on the size and on the range of accessible sizes, or limited by the physical properties of the encapsulated fluid (viscosity…).
The process consists in a one-step method that combine droplet dripping and droplet interface crossing in a single set-up to robustly produce controlled unilamellar vesicles or capsules at high-yield.
This simple and low-cost process leads to the continuous production of monodisperse vesicles or capsules with respectively a controlled bilayer or shell composition and encapsulated suspension. Physiological media, protein suspensions, colloidal particles or biological cells are exmples of suspensions that can enter the composition of encapsulated suspension. This new high-throughput technique offers unprecedented control on the size (from 1 to 100 microns), content and permeability of the produced capsules.
